Waypoint β€” Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 September 2026

Waypoint ("we", "our", "the app") is a free, ad-free directions and transit app for Singapore, available as a website and as an Android app. This page explains what information Waypoint collects, how it's used, and the third-party services it relies on to work. There is no user account or sign-in, and we do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

Location data

Waypoint asks for your device's location when you use a feature that needs it β€” for example, tapping "Where am I," searching for places "near me," getting directions from your current location, checking nearby bus stops or carparks, or using live turn-by-turn driving navigation.

Information stored only on your device

Some information you choose to save is stored locally in your browser or device (using standard browser local storage) and is never transmitted to Waypoint's own servers:

This data lives only on your own device. We have no way to see it, back it up, or recover it if you clear your browser data or uninstall the app. Clearing your browser's site data (or uninstalling the Android app) permanently deletes it.

Third-party services Waypoint relies on

Waypoint doesn't run its own maps, routing engine, or transit database β€” it's built on top of the following services. When you use a feature, the minimum data needed (usually just coordinates or a search term) is sent to that service:

ServiceUsed for
OneMap (Singapore Land Authority)Address and place search
OpenStreetMap / NominatimConverting your GPS coordinates into a readable location
OSRM (Open Source Routing Machine)Calculating driving, walking, and cycling routes
LTA DataMall (Land Transport Authority)Live bus arrivals, bus/MRT routing, carpark availability, MRT/LRT service alerts, ERP rates
data.gov.sgERP gantry location data (for estimating gantries crossed on a driving route)
NEA (National Environment Agency)Weather and rain-area data

These are Singapore government or open-source services; Waypoint acts only as a pass-through and does not control their own data practices. We don't add any tracking identifiers to these requests beyond what's needed to answer your query.

Booking partners & affiliate links

Some sections of the app β€” Tix & Tours, Gourmet Food, Book Online, and the "Find nearby" buttons under Singapore Must-Eats β€” link out to third-party booking and travel partners, including KKday and Trip.com, using affiliate tracking links. This lets Waypoint earn a small commission on bookings made through these links, at no extra cost to you, which helps keep the app free with no ads.

Analytics

We use two tools to understand how Waypoint is used, so we can improve it:

WhatsApp contact button

The floating WhatsApp button opens a chat with our contact number through WhatsApp's own app or website. We don't automatically collect anything from this β€” it simply opens WhatsApp the way any "wa.me" link does. Any conversation that follows is subject to WhatsApp's own privacy policy.

Offline support

Waypoint can cache parts of the app (like the interface itself, and the last bus/weather/train-alert data you loaded) on your device so it still opens with no internet connection. This is stored locally using your browser's standard caching mechanism and is not sent anywhere.

Children's privacy

Waypoint is a general-audience directions app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
